Under the lights at Brighton

On a crisp November evening Shoreham Sharks (U10) travelled to play in an invitational festival hosted by Brighton. Drawn in a group with Brighton, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and Worthing, the lads had their work cut out for them.

The lads opened under the flood lights against a strong Haywards Heath narrowly being edged out 4 – 2. The opposition commented how good the rugby was. The game was full of close battling at the breakdown, with a couple of solo efforts edging it to HH.

The Sharks second game kicked off and again was a very tight encounter. This was an end-to-end encounter which finished with Burgess Hill coming out on top 4 – 2 due to a couple of speedy runs down the wing.

The third match for Shoreham was against Worthing. It had only been three weeks since Shoreham had last visited them and it had been a real challenge, so it was rewarding to see how Shoreham had progressed losing narrowly 3 – 2 where the result could have easily been the other way around.

The lads were buzzing after three close games and really felt they had a shot against the hosts of the evening, Brighton. The game started with some close turn overs for each side, with the half time score seeing Shoreham edging it 2-1. The second half started with the Sharks turning over possession quickly and never really letting it go. With two well worked scores seeing the game out as 1 – 4 victors. This was the first time Shoreham had edged out a side this season and the cheers were well deserved!

It was a really great effort from the Sharks that saw them score in each of the games and winning their first festival game this season! The evening was rounded off with hot dogs and hot chocolate, Thanks to hosts for a fantastic event. We look forward to the next evening event in the new year.
