Shoreham u13 faced regular rivals Hellingly at Buckingham Park on Saturday. Matches between the two have traditionally been close affairs until Shoreham managed a convincing win at the start of this season. This would be an important step to see whether Shoreham recent improvement is here to stay.
From the kick off Shoreham attacked their opponents with powerful direct running from the forwards. Allied with strong rucking this allowed Shoreham the bulk of the possession and gave them regular opportunities to score. In defence the green and golds put their opponents under regular pressure keeping them deep in their own half.
The home team were 6-1 up at the break and used the second half to vary their play. Getting the ball wide saw the backs finding space to use their speed. With Hellingly being forced to regularly kick to clear their lines Shoreham's kick return became an aggressive pace filled affair stretching the opposition.
The 13-1 final score was an accurate reflection of the match and just reward for an excellent performance by the home team.
