Under 12 @ Sussex Festival 13 March 2016

Shoreham U12s have always had the potential to do very well in these competitions but either an odd lacklustre performance or a bit of bad luck has let them under achieving. This festival was to be different as a focused and committed team played to their potential throughout. Hove B were dismissed first in a 5-0 win which should have been more with some better handling. A strong Horsham side who had beaten Shoreham in this competition last year were next. Shoreham were strong and direct, playing mainly in the oppositions half and used excellent pressure to force errors. A 2-0 win did not reflect what was a confident and clinical showing.

In the main competition semi final Hove A provided a physical and paced challenge. Shoreham continued to show their class more than matching Hove in the breakdown and working hard to pass the ball into space to create opportunities. Using Louie Stillman's pace and power Shoreham led 1-0 at the break and doubled their lead shortly before the end. Thinking it was won the tired team slightly turned off to concede their first try of the day, before with the last play Hove managed to bundle the ball over. The draw led to the toss of a coin which Shoreham won to go through to the final, just reward for dominating 90% of the match.

The final was against the leading team in the county Haywards Heath. Heath hadn't conceded a try all day and had dismissed Hove 4-0 in the group stages. A determined Shoreham took up the challenge and used their power and direct running to push Heath back in the opening stages. The shock on the pitch and sidelines when Finn Clifton crashed over for Shoreham to take the lead was palpable. Sadly this motivated Heath who's pace and width proved too much for a tiring Shoreham. Three quick breakaway try's put Shoreham behind at half time. A much tighter second half saw Shoreham match their classy opponents for long periods and the green and golds deservedly scored again towards the end when Harvey Matthews shrugged off defenders and charged over. It finished 5-2 and Shoreham walked away as runners up on the day.
