By Daegan Beaumont
Shoreham beat a strong Barns Green team to reach the final ofthe Sussex Plate for the second successive year
Shoreham travelled to Barns Green full of confidence with a strong team and real belief that they could make it to the plate final again, after lossing out to Hellingly in last year's final. However it appeared that Shoreham's confidence was short lived as Barns Green started the stronger, scoring first with a penalty. This seemed to further fire up Barns green who found themselves with a scrum inside Shoreham's 22 following a handling error. Barns green capitalised on this error and scored to futher increase their lead to 10-0 with a converted try. Following a couple of minutes of pressure another error gave Barns Green a chance to clear their lines, another Shoreham error followed and Barns Green slotted over the penatly for a 13-0 lead after 20 minutes. This was the wake up Shoreham needed and started to cut out the mistakes, following some good work from scrum-half Alex hadfield, Shoreham were able to get over the line from strong running Harry Rae, conversion missed 13-5 to the hosts. With the second half drawing to a close, a smart break from Terry Falk down the wing led to captain Daegan Beaumont beating covering defenders scoring in the corner, conversion again missed, half time Barns green 13-10 Shoreham.
Shoreham knew that momemtum was now on their side and didn't let the halftime break take that away. Straight from the kick off strong running second row Nick Hobden put Shoreham right back into the Barns Green half. Continued Shoreham pressure allowed Lance Tufft to score after some smart hands a number of players, converted by Reed, 13-17. After this try, Barns Green's heads went down, whilst Shoreham's momentum continued. After 55 minutes Shoreham rang the changes and the fresh legs further punished Barns Green as Shoreham went on to score a further 17 unanswered points to take the game 13-34.
