Shoreham Under 16 Boys start their historic season with a win in their first game of the season against Midhurst.

Our Under 16 Boys side made an impressive start to the new season with a comprehensive victory against Midhurst.

Played in the magnificent setting of Cowdray Park, we got off to a flying start scoring three converted tries in the opening 10 minutes!

After a long 18 months of cancelled league fixtures and playing under strict RFU COVID rules we relished the return to a full contact game. Our defence held up against the pressure Midhurst were able to apply before with Shoreham running in a further four tries before half time.

In the spirit of this friendly fixture the Midhurst and Shoreham coaches conspired to mix up the sides for the second half producing a much more even contest. Throughout the mid Sussex battle Shoreham's large travelling support were treated to some high-quality rugby and which shows why the coaches have high hopes of a very successful season for the Under 16s.

Mark Taylor, Under 16s Coach said; “We’re so pleased to get back to a proper game after 18 months of playing under COVID restrictions. If we play with the same sense of sheer joy we did against Midhurst, I have hight hopes of a very successful season.”

James Drummond-Davies, Youth Chairman said; “What a great way for the Under 16s to start the season, the lads have really bonded, which will help them this season and all the way through to the Colts.”

The match against Midhurst ended was a 47-0 victory for Shoreham in the first half to start the Under 16 Boys new historic season off to a flyer.

This is a historic season for the Under 16s in this Shoreham Rugby Football Club's momentous 30th anniversary year. The plan is for them to become Shoreham’s first ever Colts team and move successfully into senior rugby and eventually into the Seniors 1st and 2nd XVs.

Lots of volunteers are working hard to make sure that this progression happens. Coaches and players from the current Senior teams at Shoreham are happily sharing their knowledge and experience and are assisting training for this talented group of players.

The Juniors and Seniors teams are always looking for new players so please contact us if you or your child would like to play rugby.
